Sorry, I had to procrastinate more by making a detailed sampling of the Facebook timeline shiteousness. I understated it. Scrolling through 102 postsafter a refresh the breakdown was: 3 from my follows, 79 "suggestions",19 ads, 1 reels item (this time just once but often that comes up multiple times). Worse, posts from my follows only occured in the first 10. The suggestions started off not bad but then got horrible. Ads were universally garbage. Thank god for the fediverse! #fediverse #facebook #enshitification
I'm sensitive to that platform's shortcomings, but I still find it the most effective way to communicate broadly with all of the people from my past and present lives (spread all over the world). I tend to use the private Groups feature more than general Feed and add-on tools to minimize the crap.
I do miss my groups and IRL interactions from over there. I’m glad I control my social media experience over here a lot more though. So I make it over there when I need to but I can’t see ever making it my primary social media platform again. I have been posting more since logging in for an IRL running group thing. This morning I was wondering what browsing more would be like. I found the answer: shiteous. 😀
@Brad Koehn ☑️ Well, ironically they are like 90% on WhatsApp and only 10% on Facebook. So I may have to bite the bullet on joining that infernal system some how. I'm trying to figure out if I can fake it out with an emulator or a junk SIMless phone with a Google Phone phone number
@Brad Koehn ☑️ yep I have it setup as well. I thought it’d be as easy as just having a Google number and an emulator long enough to get activation. But someone on my server that uses the bridge says you have to log in with the phone regularly for the whole thing to keep working.
