There seems to be a Steam server outage going on atm, some reporting they cannot login.

Valve said it's affecting their games too. It's being worked on.

@schmaker @rotopenguin yes, but you don't have to pass the login server *right now* (during an outage) if you follow those directions. (people don't seem to be understanding that.)

The Steam gaming platform was the target of four waves of DDoS attacks over the past week.

The attacks took place hours before Tencent's Black Myth: Wukong game broke a Steam record of most concurrent users.

Chinese security firm QiAnXin says the attack disrupted Steam servers in 13 regions, but none of the waves lasted more than five hours.

The attacks were most likely designed to prevent the game from breaking Steam's record.

@rotopenguin @r0k @schmaker no, just temporary deactivate network and start steam - offline mode. But there are some games that require permanent online, these will obviously not work. I played over months without a connection

Perhaps people prepped this when Steam was online before the current outage. Perhaps once Steam works again, people can prep for a future Steam outage.

I managed to get back into Steam on Linux using the -tcp command-line argument.

Based on the bug reports, it seems to be something to do with a WebSocket server somewhere going offline, I think.
