That's not quite the point: You ban an anti-constitutional, fascist party to prevent it from gaining power. The mindset won't be gone, but all the party's access to money and supporting infrastructure will be. (Besides: Just founding the same - structures, people - with a different tag is also prohibited.)
Weimar republic just almost did it. We know of the consequences.

I'm from #Czechia - we have great history of overpissing and sidestepping law, so I cannot really imagine a way you actually could stop creation of another party. You just have to be carefully inside of law boundaries until you can change them. But if you can, elaborate please - I'm interested in informations how law on this topic works there.

I must note though, that I do not consider the party being a dangerous thing - it's the voters, who I consider dangerous. And that's a HUGE amount of people

@schmaker you are both 100% correct. You hardly can ban a party being voted by >30% (43,8% in Saxony-Anhalt) without dividing the country. Dividing at this point like the USA model would only make things more desastrous. I could not agree more though: acceptance of the impossible = fascism, racism, authocracy, will lead to the USA scenario as well. I hope for the EU to help GER to get out of this. Then again, FRA, ITA, NLD, HUN, AUT are leaning far right as well. The pressure is on.

The NSDAP was banned, their 30+ % voters didn't disappear with the ban.

Would have been better to ban them before World War II, though.

Waiting would be a mistake now.

Also no one claimed banning the AfD would be an easy, all around nice and cozy way that every single AfD voter would accept outright.

the train has left the station. Once ~40% of the citizens vote for a party it is almost impossible to ban them. The legal terms have not changed of course, but the acceptance within the population is too high to turn the ship around & the right wing extremists are already screeming "Save democracy don't allow them to ban us." The same stupid term that bent GER to their knees in 1930 was used again by SPD & CDU "We will not ban them, we will confront them politically." Buffoons.
