First time with a bike on a train yesterday. Public transport in #Brno is not very #bike friendly. A bike used to be free for annual pass holders, then half price and now it costs the same as a full ticket. And electric bikes are not allowed at all.

It’s a bit of a mess here in the UK, but free which I is good except that it means it can be harder to complain about lack of space on trains… as it’s free.

yes, this is embarassing. the regional trains can take bikes comfortably (save for the hassle of figuring out what ticket to buy), and then you end up on hlavak, and if you don't want to ride from the station your only option is to lock the bike exposed to the elements

with the elements prominently featuring piss

Just a tip for anyone who don't know about IDS-JMK. Use app Poseidon. You can buy tickets, find connections, info about service disruptions...

For bikes there are usually only 2 tickets - all zones 240 min and 24 hours. All the other tickets are for short routes.

All SX and RX trains have space for bikes at least 10 in my experience.

3 years ago we walked into the station there with 2 recumbent bicycles +gear. Half an hour later we were on our way in an international #train. I am happy enough with that. In NL that would have taken far far longer.
in reply to CyclesSmiles

@CyclesSmiles this was just a local/city train. You don't need to check in your bike, you just carry it with you and you have to buy a ticket for it, which I don't mind, but it's a negative trend for cyclists because it used to be for free.
in reply to Jiří Eischmann

negative trends have to signaled, that's true.
We are worse off here in NL ( recumbents are not allowed on trains anymore), so I am still digesting that. Please have mercy on me.

I'm using a hack for that.

1.This is a bike.
2. There is no bike here. Just a luggage.

@verosk Yeah, Ivan Bíbr has a folding bike for the very same reason, but I take my bike to public transportation so rarely that it wouldn't make sense for me.

bth I saw an "electric bike" on the Prague metro recently and it was legit more like a thin motorcycle. It had like, snow wheels
in reply to Emil J

These are being called "fatbikes" and I met a guy riding it in Plzeň - it seems like it works quite well in snowy conditions. True SUV...
