"Last week we reported on the decision by the Slovak ministry of interior to install cameras, which appeared to be Russian, along roads to allegedly “measure speed.”

Since then, an analysis from the Slovak security office has been released, and it is crazier than you could imagine.

First of all: the device was identified as a Cordon PRO.M camera from the Russian manufacturer Simicon.

Second of all: the device contains several communication capabilities, including undocumented ones, above all:

a) an actively broadcasting WiFi network for local connection to the camera;

b) an undocumented extra 3G/4G modem;

c) a set of twelve specific built-in telephone numbers with +78… and +79… prefixes in the Russian Federation. If a SIM card is present, an SMS received from one of these numbers allows full administrator-level access to the camera, and network access to the camera and to the networks connected to it, provided the built-in password is known.

The camera had a setting, visible directly in the configuration interface, that made the camera’s image available without a password to anyone with a network connection to it.

Moreover, the speed-measuring “system” installed on the camera was fake. It was not even full metering software, just a file named after a certified metering system — but it does not actually do anything."
