Oh no, Czech… 💔😢
Would someone from the Czech Republic please explain how in 2025, the country of Václav Havel would vote for Andrej Babis — a wealthy Donald Trump type who owns a big chunk of the agricultural industry and wants to reduce support for Ukraine?
I am baffled.

The path to the premiership is anything but straightforward for right-wing populist Andrej Babiš, whose ANO movement won big in the parliamentary vote.Ketrin Jochecová (POLITICO)

It's not as bad as it looks

in reply to Randahl Fink • •#Babiš is not #Orbán nor #Fico .. he found out that befriending Orbán will not help his party and as an oligarch he has only two priorities:
- keep getting subsidies for his companies
- keep being in power to get these subsidies
These elections imo shown, that being pro-russian actually does not lead you to power - that's why he changed rhetoric in his campaign later on. He went from "no shells for #Ukraine" to "no, we don't want to stop it, just reorganize and let #NATO do this".
He's not good for Ukraine, that's for sure, but there is one thing - Babiš is exactly same unpredictable person as Trump is, so anything can happen 😀

On a globe there is no end in the east or west. So it does not matter if we have someone vs EU from Putin's side or Trump's side.

And as his firms depends on money from EU, he will play with them. My guess is he will try somehow limit it but nit much. As mentioned, more important is that those really pro-kremlin parties completely failed.
But still I am angry that 50% of voters are stupid and able to repeat same mistake several times.

Especially through corporate social media, but also classic media in tv, radio and print, these guys push narratives.
Even liberal countries, like the Netherlands, or larger ones, like Germany, have right wing extremists with high election percentages and conservative parties moving to the right.

Every country is sitting on a powder keg of fascism. Anybody sitting on their powder keg smoking a cigarette thinking "It can't happen here" is in fact the reason it can happen.
