2024 is a mega election year and the EU elections are taking place this week. This is the 2nd largest election in the world - around 350 million people are eligible to vote.
Just like the elections in India and the USA this year - this one is very important for coexistence on our planet. Therefore, we want to use our reach and call on all those who are entitled to vote to make their voice heard.
We must not leave the EU to the far-right parties and must defend our democracies. Please vote.

For example, instead of a priori disqualifying the far-left and the far-right parties, it's more interesting to observe that centrists are the most hostile to democracy: https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2018/05/23/opinion/international-world/centrists-democracy.html

in reply to Hypolite Petovan • •Well, first of all (correct me if I'm wrong) your communist party did not killed French citizens in the first place.
For example members of this party are talking about "traffic accidents" when people were killed by 1968 occupants and pretty much celebrating death of our first democratic president. Their leaders distanced themselves from this statement back then, but I'm not that sure they would do it these days..
Luckily, when they aren't in power, they are only disgusting. But there are a way too many ruined lives behind them to ignore..

So you have to look into the details of a party's program and public statements to figure out their political stance.

And then the two parties exchanged political platform, but the current Democratic party still kept the same name despite the appalling history of the name.
The Red Scares are also grim periods in the US when political opponents are persecuted based on political biases. It's coming back with the recent rise of China to international prominence.
It's never been completely totalitarian, granted, but it's been somewhat authoritarian including an election system that in practice only makes two political parties relevant at the state and federal level.

I've heard before the same "Horseshoe Theory" argument that far-left ideology is as bad as far-right ideology from West-Westerners, and while you have way better reasons to believe in it, I still don't think it's applicable at the European level.

I may not actually vote for a far-left party at the European level, but I definitely don't put them in the same bag.

in reply to Hypolite Petovan • • •@hypolite It's not cynic, politicans need strong control - all of them and always.
And I of course dont put all far-left in one bag. I only not ignore there are very disgusting far-let parties too, like on far-right. That's what it started.
